The Camp RapidFire - Orientation Sheet
A Must read before your visit to the Camp RapidFire
We wish you a pleasant stay at the camp RapidFire and
for your convenience, are putting down important pointers.
Please keep them in mind for a memorable experience
The Camp is located in the wilderness next to the
River Ganga. Keep the river clean and please do not throw anything in
the river. Do not use soap or shampoo at the riverside.
Do not wander near the river or get in to it without
a life jacket and especially not at night, not even with a life jacket.
Waterfront safety - The water can be really inviting
at times, especially under the mid day sun, but you must be very careful
at all times. The riverside beach does not decline like a regular sea
beach but very abruptly at certain places and has quick sand at other
places.
When you decide to go swimming or enjoy yourself with
the tube floats, please wear a life jacket. Please inform the camp
lifeguard to oversee the safety aspect. Also don't swim too far out. The
current can take you swiftly downstream.
It is everyone's responsibility to keep an eye on the
children at the camp.
There is no electricity at the camp please do not
forget to organise / carry a torch for your self.
Respect the environment and keep your surroundings
clean. Please follow the rules of the great outdoors, take nothing but
photographs and leave nothing but footprints. Do ensure all litter is
disposed sensibly. Waste bins are kept all over the camp.
Ensure that your tents are zipped when not in use as
freak and sudden sandstorms are common.
Please follow the meal schedules at the camp.
Leave the cutlery in the dining area and not in the sand on the beach as
spoons / forks tend to get lost to be discovered two years hence if we
are lucky.
Leave nothing on the sand at the beach, it tends to
disappear and hard to find. Any valuables may be deposited with the
kitchen staff for safe keep.
Nylon/synthetic shorts, T-shirts and floaters are
better than cotton for the river. For other times adequate sporty
clothes and footwear are required. Personal toiletries & medications are
advised.
Anyone consuming alcohol before a rafting trip will
not be allowed on the raft.
People with problems of Asthma, Heart ailments and
any other disorder like joint problems, arthritis should inform in
advance and seek medical advice about getting on to the raft and taking
up physically demanding activities.
The camp has common dry pit toilets, which are
sanitised by use of lime powder (CHUNA). After using them please make
sure you dump a little of the lime from the sack kept in the area.
Please leave the loos clean.
Non-bathers are encouraged at the camp and bathing in
the river must be soap free.
Bonfires are usually a community affair, so please
plan your evening entertainment. Please maintain decorum and a spirit of
camaraderie and be friendly to other fellow campers.
Important Pointers when you go rafting
River rafting is an adventure sport and there does
exist as in any adventure sport a certain amount of risk to life and
limb, however the River Ganga is one of the safest rivers to raft for
beginners and even for non-swimmers.
The Rapids on the river are classified under six
grades and the river Ganga has rapids up to a level of four, five being
only for professional runners and six being not advised to be attempted
even by professionals.
Your guides on the raft also commonly referred to as
river runners are professionally qualified experts who have been
certified by the Department of Tourism and have undergone a mandatory
First Aid and CPR course to handle any sort of eventuality. And not
forgetting to mention they have countless no of times rafted on the
river with thousands of people. Please listen to them carefully and
always follow their commands in totality.
The rapids on the river are natural challenges
presented by the river and by safely negotiating these challenges is the
ultimate objective of white water rafting as an adventure sport. Precise
understanding of the correct path to take while in a rapid is the main
reasons of taking a professional river runner on the rafts. However the
river behaviour changes every passing minute and a raft may flip white
negotiating a rapid. This may result in some or all the people on the
raft to be thrown overboard.
In case of a flip follow these simple
pointers
Do not panic, you are always wearing a life jacket,
which will always keep you afloat. Remember you can not down it is
impossible.
Most rapids on the Ganga are flush out rapids; you
will be thrown out of the rapid quickly.
Do not shout for help, you will only end up gulping
water.
Once flushed out of the rapid, flow with your feet
down stream.
We wish you a pleasant time at the Camp RapidFire
